Remember John from TGC? I know that a lot of people hated John so if you did, please just ignore this post. For those of you that rather enjoyed being harassed by John from time to time I've created a standalone app for commentary that runs on top of GSPro. While it is working for me, your mileage may vary. I'm not a programmer by trade so a lot of this was new to me. Thankful for AI to even have the chance to get something working at all. If you are interested in giving this a go, here's the installer -
If/when you have problems, just comment here and I'll try and help you through.
A few notes - for some reason my virus scanner likes to think this app is a virus, probably because it's not officially signed. If you download the setup file to your c:\gsprov1 folder it should work if you have already set up a virus exception there. I promise it's not a virus... If that doesn't work you can temporarily turn off your virus scanner until the application is installed.
Once installed, you'll want to load up a course on GSPro and go ahead and get to a 2nd shot on a par 4. Then launch the commentator app or if it's already launched, use alt-tab to get to it. Then you can define regions for what the app is looking at. I don't have api data access to the gspro data, so I'm using screen scraping and OCR to pull in the data for contextual use by the commentator. If that doesn't make sense, a simpler way of explaining is when this doesn't work, just blame Lisa Donnely (your commentator) she's not the sharpest knife in the drawer.
Anyway, you'll need to go through the wizard selecting each of the areas by dragging and dropping from top left to bottom right, taking into account that something like player name may be longer or shorter than the current player name. Same with Course name. You want to capture the data but not much else around it or the OCR won't work great. Again, your mileage may vary.
Once you have the regions defined you can click to start commentary. Now you have a working commentator, or so I hope. She likes to booze it up a bit so just ignore that. Hopefully she'll provide a bit of fun. Please comment below for any issues you come across. You can also click on file - show regions - to see an overlay of what was selected to help troubleshoot. Looking forward to your feedback and/or if I should just kill this project now, or expand upon it in the future.
