TBC White Sulphur is live, and Sandmine gets another look

TBC White Sulphur is ready. This is my replica of TPC Old White at The Greenbrier, and once again, you all picked it.

When this one won the vote, it supposedly had LiDAR. It did. Unfortunately, it was old LiDAR, and that turned into quite a bit more work than I had hoped!

About those bunkers

Old White was badly flooded in 2016. The course was brought back afterward with a restoration that honored what the original designers had intended, but the data I had did not reflect that version of the course. All the bunkers in the LiDAR were flat.

So having the data was not the shortcut I thought it might be. Getting the true look of those bunkers back was a very tedious process. There was a lot of going back and working on the shapes, and a lot of waiting on Blender along the way.

In the end, I feel it was worth it. Those bunkers are such a big part of the look of this place, and I wanted to get them right.

A historic place

The Old White opened in 1914, designed by C.B. Macdonald with Seth Raynor. After the June 2016 flood, Keith Foster restored the course, and it reopened in July 2017. There is a lot of history in this little corner of White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia.

Sandmine got some attention too

I played TBC Sandmine in the sim about a week ago and just was not happy with it. While I was waiting on White Sulphur's Blender processes, I decided to go ahead and work on that as well.

It turned into a big revision. I am much happier with the result, so even if you have played Sandmine before, go give it another shot!

The next community pick is Fraser Edmundston Golf Club in Edmundston, New Brunswick. I have the LiDAR, and it looks good. Thank goodness.
